I am studying photography at degree level with the Open College of the Arts. This learning log is for the level 1 module Expressing Your Vision.
I have just completed the Foundations in Photography course with the OCA and my learning log for that can be found here.
My student number is 516808.
I have been interested in photography for a number of years and finally decided I wanted to study the subject in greater depth a few years ago.
I enjoy taking candid photographs of people rather than more formal portraiture as I find it more interesting when a person isn’t conscious of the camera or isn’t trying to pose for it if they are.
I primarily use a Nikon D7200 with a kit 18-55mm lens but also a 70-200mm lens as well as 24mm, 35mm and 50mm prime lenses, and a 40mm macro.
My day job is as a software test engineer but I also enjoy keeping fit by means of running and triathlons, as well as being part of a burlesque troupe in Yeovil where I live.
Other influences on my photography are gender and gender identity as well as how people deal with the illness and loss of a child, something that happened to me in 2017 when my son passed away, aged 19, after a being ill with Leukaemia and Sarcomas for all but two years of his life.
I also have another photography website which I will be using for personal photography projects and non-OCA related activities. That can be found here.
